An IDEAAL Opportunity 

The first cohort of the Increasing Diversity in and Equitable Access to Applied Learning in Disaster Research Response: IDEAAL DR2 initiative, which was launched this year in partnership with the Center for Disaster Resilient Communities at the University of Washington (UW), gathered in August 2024. 

BAF Fellows Join the 2024 CHEER Summer Scholars Program 

In June and July 2024, BAF Fellows Amidu Kalokoh, Melissa Villarreal, and Nelson Adeniji  joined six other students in a summer research training program as the second cohort of the Coastal Hazards, Equity, Economic prosperity and Resilience (CHEER) Hub, which is spearheaded by the Disaster Research Center at the University of Delaware.

Our Featured Fellow for July 2024 is Alexa Riobueno-Naylor (she/her). Alexa is a fifth-year PhD candidate in counseling psychology in the Department of Counseling, Developmental, and Educational Psychology at Boston College, where she works with Dr. Betty S. Lai. Alexa is dedicated to supporting youth and families affected by disasters and other traumatic stressors through both research and clinical work

Friday Fellow Feature: Dr. Wendell Grinton, Jr.

Wendell Grinton, Jr.

Our Featured Fellow for June 2024 is Dr. Wendell Grinton, Jr., who successfully defended his dissertation on April 30th and received a doctoral degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Virginia Tech. He also earned a graduate certificate in Disaster Resilience and Risk Management (DRRM). His doctoral research focused on ways to improve the communication of civil infrastructure messages to the public.
