I spent this summer in Eastern North Carolina asking emergency managers, non-profit directors, and community leaders a question that made some of them squirm: “Are you trustworthy?”
The first cohort of the Increasing Diversity in and Equitable Access to Applied Learning in Disaster Research Response: IDEAAL DR2 initiative, which was launched this year in partnership with the Center for Disaster Resilient Communities at the University of Washington (UW), gathered in August 2024.
In June and July 2024, BAF Fellows Amidu Kalokoh, Melissa Villarreal, and Nelson Adeniji joined six other students in a summer research training program as the second cohort of the Coastal Hazards, Equity, Economic prosperity and Resilience (CHEER) Hub, which is spearheaded by the Disaster Research Center at the University of Delaware.
